Plaster of Paris (POP) is a fine white powder made by heating gypsum to remove moisture, forming calcium sulfate hemihydrate. When mixed with water, it forms a smooth paste that sets quickly, usually within 10–15 minutes. POP is widely used in construction, art, and medical fields due to its fast-setting nature, ease of application, and ability to create detailed finishes. It is commonly applied for wall and ceiling decorations, moldings, sculptures, and orthopedic casts. Although it provides a strong, smooth, and aesthetically pleasing surface, it is not water-resistant and should only be used in dry, moisture-free environments for durability.
